Open Data and The OpenPhoto Project

Overview:
When you separate application logic from data storage you wind up with some really awesome options. This is the fundamental building block of building applications that enable data ownership and portability. With the availability of storage services such as Dropbox and Amazon S3 paired with up and coming cloud databases you can now build applications which were previously impossible.

The OpenPhoto Project isn't about building an alternative to Flickr. We’re building an entirely different way to think of how you organize and share your photos. Imagine being able to grant web and mobile applications access to your hard drive, which you ultimately hold the keys to. Now imagine that your hard drive is in the cloud, always available and professionally backed up.

You can find out more about the project at http://theopenphotoproject.org and see what we've build at https://github.com/openphoto.
